Thanks for the Memories 2005
This past year gave us many reasons to feel thankful and many opportunities to say "Thanks." Look back with us at our 2005 Calendar of Thank You Notes.
Real Men Don't Sew Pillows...Or Do They?
Dear Boys of Ms. Gerringer's Class,
Our veteran artisan and Assistant Workroom Manager Terri Yarbrough showed you her sewing skills in January. In this photo you look doubtful but obviously curious. Remember how you each helped make a pillow that you took home? As third-graders in Ms. Tracie Gerringer's 2004-2005 class at Garrett Elementary School, we made you our first "adopted" classroom in our Adopt-a-Classroom program. Thank you Boys, for wanting to make pillows in spite of your manly reputations.

"Tall Installers Need No Ladders" Myth Cut Down to Size
Dear David Redfern,
As an installer for Stevenson Vestal Installations, you number among the vertically blessed. But even you needed some tall ladders to deal with the model home treatments in this February photo, which soared 20 feet upwards into this spacious Family Room. This project brought you and SVI together with Christine Neese and SV Turnkey. David, I don't know if you realized this, but while you stood there, humbled by those lofty draperies, the dynamic Ms. Neese, who stands about half as tall as you in her stocking feet, looked on with satisfaction. Thanks, David, for dispelling a myth.

Jig Along, Jig Along, Jig Along, Smack!
Dear Girls in Ms. Gerringer's Class,
Remember when SV Special Drapery Artisan and talented dancer Kelly VanWeest asked you to dance around in a circle, then step into the middle and step back again? And you did that, no problem! But when she asked the boys to try the same thing, they slammed into each other and fell down in a heap. And we wanted to know why the boys all fell down while you girls danced circles around them? The boys said "We don't know!" But you girls answered: "because girls are better than boys!" This photo from March shows our St. Patrick's Day dance session. Thank you girls, for reminding us that you rule the dance floor.

By the Way, If You Don't Retire We'll Give You the Keys to the Company Car
Dear Elsie Coble,
We all adored you, so when you announced your plans to retire we all heaved a collective sigh. This April photo captures just one moment on your constantly changing, expressive face. The camera caught you, the experienced Shade Artisan, in mid-sentence as you uttered "Oh no, you're not taking my picture, are you?" At your retirement dinner you assured us you will relax and enjoy time with your husband in retirement. Thanks Elsie, for your consistent good cheer for so many years.

Who Says a Woman Can't Do That?
Dear Rebecca Stumpfig,
You upholster cornices. And lambrequins, headboards, screens and sunbursts. Any questions, men? If your fellow cornice upholsterer John Hawkins or woodshop cornice builder Mike Ingram have any doubts about your place in their macho world, they shrewdly keep their mouths closed. Rebecca, you have clearly earned their respect. Your good nature and confidence shine in this photo from May as you staple down the shirred border for a headboard. Thank you Rebecca, for showing guys everywhere a thing or two.

Looking at Fabrics Through the Eyes of a Painter
Dear Kay Frix,
You joined our Customer Service team in June. Recently you confided: "I love working here. The people are great, like a big family." "I've learned more and more every day." "Being around all these fabrics with their colors, textures and patterns tweaks my creative spirit, and makes me more aware of those things in nature. When I get off of work, I can look at a field of grass and see all the reds and blues and yellows." Kay, we enjoyed learning about your meeting Bob Ross and how you have used his technique for painting with large fan-shaped brushes. You told us "I paint outdoors because it's messy. The method is fast—in an hour I can have a finished painting." Thank you Kay, for reminding us of the kaleidoscope of colors all around our workroom.

Admit it, You Just Wanted an Easier-to-Pronounce Last Name, Didn't You!?
Dear Teri Revelle,
As our DC-area Sales Rep we used to shorten your former name, Teri Jelesnianski to just "Teri J." Thank goodness you got married and we can now say your your whole name in one breath: Teri Revelle. Congratulations! And the honeymoon is still on? Great! Teri, we can plainly see the glow of happiness on your face in this July photo, taken shortly before your wedding. Thanks Teri, for sharing a bit of your bliss.

And If You Have Any More Quilting Buddies We Want to Talk to Them, Too
Dear Sherry O'Brien,
You listened as your quilting pal Carol raved about the workplace she had just visited for a job interview. "Everything was friendly and bright and they have every kind of sewing machine and they make all these custom products." Although Carol ultimately decided to continue with her stay-at-home mom duties for now instead of accepting our job offer, you came for an interview next. And now, Sherry we have welcomed you to our Stevenson Vestal family of employees. Your experience sewing artistic decorative quilts makes you ideally suited to working here. We put you right to work with our Shade team. In the photo above, taken in August, you show the excitement you feel for your new job. Thanks Sherry, for bringing new skills to our oasis of sewing talent.

Tah-DAA! And Now, Watch Me Pull a Rabbit Out of My Hat
Dear Chris Hart,
You crazy guy—we see you gesturing proudly in front of these custom shades. We planned these products to fit into a semicircle of windows in a luxury residence Turnkey project. Chris, as an installer for SV Turnkey, your good humor and flare for the dramatic show in this September photo. SV Turnkey Project Manager Christine Neese gets great results from you and her other installers while also encouraging good cheer, as we can see from this candid photo. Thank you Chris, for your installing magic.

OK, Now Everyone Give Me Your Best "Relaxed" Look But Don't Fall Over
Dear Ms. Debra Berlin and Class,
For the 2005-2006 school year we have adopted two classes for our Adopt-a-Classroom program, including your third grade class at E. M. Holt Elementary. Here you see your students looking all "relaxed", just as prompted. If you like this, you should see "happy", "even happier" and "way crazy happy." This October photo also documents our craft for that month, a bat clip. Thank you Ms. Berlin's Class, for demonstrating total chaos and complete relaxation at the same time.

Hey, What's That Lady Doing Over There?
Dear Ms. Jill Rock and Class,
We had such a blast when you and your Haw River Elementary third grade students, our second adopted classroom for 2005-2006, came to visit us in November. We enjoyed dividing your class into four small groups and leading you through our workroom. One inquisitive group liked to ask questions. "Can we go see what that man's building over here?" and "Hey, what's that lady doing over there?" You swept through our workroom like a breath of fresh air and really livened up the place. Thank you Ms. Rock's Class, for giving us the chance to answer innocent questions.

Two Bicycles Add to Parents' Pride
Dear Ben Bristow,
As an SV Driver, you helped out by delivering our Gifting Committee's donation to Eunice Richmond of the Parents' Pride Store: a pair of bicycles and a pile of presents for some lucky boy and girl this Christmas. Ben, we hope you enjoyed "playing Santa" on behalf of all of us SV employees. You look happy in this photo, shaking Eunice's hand. You also got to meet Eunice's husband Kerry Richmond. Did you know that the Parent's Pride Store opens its doors every December as a fundraising activity of the Positive Attitude Youth Center (PAYC)? The Richmonds solicit children's Christmas gifts from the community and charge parents half price (hence the "Pride" in the name) to help bring the joy of the season to their children. They use to money raised to support PAYC tutoring programs. Students from nearby Elon University volunteer as tutors for all ages of children in need of extra academic support. Thanks Ben, for delivering the pride.
