Triangular pelmets make a strong design point
Attention to detail points to a successful design for this custom awning valance. Planned for a Breakfast area under an arched window and above shutters, this treatment just oozes luscious details. For example: a scalloped flap with glass bead trim, triangular pelmets finished with glass bead medallions and careful piecing of the face fabric for a matching look in each scallop.

Bubbles of Fun

Congratulations
Congratulations to designer Barbara Shoemaker of Mill Agent Store in Knoxville, TN for catching our eye this month.

"It's the first thing you see"
We spoke to 28-year design veteran Barbara Shoemaker about the installed product. Barbara says, "It's the first thing you see when you step in the front door of my clients house and look into the Kitchen area. The valance just dominates that space. You also see this valance from above, and it looks great from that vantage point as well. I chose a faux gold with black finish for the walls of this room, and I repeated the use of this predominantly gold and black fabric in an adjoining room, since it worked so well here."

The SV Experience
Barbara says, "I'm very happy with a Stevenson Vestal. The quality is very good, and things have gone very well, working with my CSR, Jodi.

Sharpen your pencils
Barbara's sketch for this treatment proves the point that a simple sketch of just a few lines speaks a thousand words. So cast off any drawing phobia you might harbor, sharpen your pencil and sketch up your latest, greatest idea for us!

Precision Magician—meet SV valance artisan Becky
Valance artisans Becky (pictured here) and Elaina collaborated on this custom awning valance. Becky and Elaina went to great lengths to attach the glass bead medallions to the tip of each triangular pelmet, doing everything from restringing each medallion of beads to running a supporting string through the interior of each pelmet to fasten it securely in a hidden location above, summoning up their most magical and inventive sewing skills. Becky says, "Of all the custom products I have ever made, this one was my favorite. We had so much fun. I love precision and detail, and we had lots of challenges that should have made the work on this valance tedious and difficult." But when Becky and Elaina finished their work and stood back to admire it, they said to each other, "Wow, we made that!"
