Designer Brenda Meara adds sparkle to the traditional Cape Cod look
Designer Brenda Meara of The Curtain Company in Hyannis, MA tells a remarkable story of a Stevenson Vestal valance, reflections of sea glass bead trim off the waves of Nantucket Sound and views of the President Kennedy compound.

A view of the Kennedy compound
Ms. Meara tells her story: "This valance was placed in a Hyannisport dining room and with your great craftsmanship, the design result is spectacular. Looking through the cape style windows, which this treatment adorns, is President Kennedy's summer compound on Nantucket Sound. The glass beaded trim sparkles like the ocean and is truly magical while maintaining the Cape Cod Seaside traditional design."

Starting with a Leg Wrapped Swag for inspiration
Brenda found her initial inspiration in the Stevenson Vestal Leg Wrapped Swag. Developing her design further, Brenda planned for a gathered area in the center to create a strong focal point, and—drawing even more attention to this area—attaching a decorative tassel as the riveting centerpiece.

Sparkling details, tied in a bow
This detail photo shows the reflective sea glass beads behind the decorative tassel, neatly tied in a bow.

A simple drawing leads to a beautiful conclusion
It bears repeating: a drawing—even a simple sketch of just a few lines—paints a thousand words for us. It seems clear that Brenda Meara's effective drawing worked its magic and served our artisans well in creating a beautiful custom product.

Meet the Artisan: Elaina does it again
Valance artisan Elaina does it again with another amazing creation. Elaina says "I love my job. It feels good to receive praise, and I enjoy the honor of seeing my own work on the Stevenson Vestal website." Elaina interpreted Brenda's drawing and created the luxurious folds and gathers that give it such a feeling of lavish opulence. She used a trick or two along the way to get those deep gathers, but some secrets—well, let's just say some secrets fall into the category of "too good to tell!"

Meet the CSR: Lynn W!
Designer Brenda Meara has our own Customer Service director Lynn W. to consult as her Customer Service Rep. Brenda says, "Lynn was a great help to me on this project. She provides me with the opportunity for the successful execution of my custom products."

Brenda's SV experience
Brenda offers these insights about working with Stevenson Vestal: "I've experienced excellent quality, on-time delivery and I love that the Q&A Express keeps me informed about challenges as they arise. And I've been working with my copy of the new Designer Guide [see related articles: Introducing the Designer Guide 2007 and Free Designer Guides to Active Customers] and it has helped me a great deal with yardages. Overall, I've been very happy with Stevenson Vestal."

Site photos coming soon...
Brenda promises some exciting site photos from this project, so stay tuned for a follow-up article!
