Insight for June 2006
Wright Question has SV Answer
What do the Wright Brothers and SV Artisans have in common? Besides the fact that Orville and Wilbur Wright and Stevenson Vestal Artisans have practiced their respective crafts (no pun intended) in North Carolina, another interesting historical fact binds them together. At the turn of the 20th Century Wilbur Wright made use of a certain machine that has not changed much in the intervening years to modify the first Wright Brothers glider. Don't have the answer yet? The Answer......SEWING! The plaque in this photo reads: "This sewing machine was used by Wilbur Wright in 1900 to modify fabric used on the first glider." SV Artisan and Workleader Trudy took this photo during her recent visit to the Wright Brothers National Memorial Park on the North Carolina Outer Banks. See more photos of Trudy's trip in this month's feature SV e-news article: Take Me to Your Leader.
