Front Load Option: The Basics

Don’t you mean shade back option?
We use a funny name, front load option, for the optional feature available for our roman shades in which we mount the shade off the back of the board. So why, you might ask, don’t we call it “shade back option”? After all, the Rollease location does not change. Er, well, I don’t know, but think of it like this: Relatively speaking, the Rollease and control cord goes in front of the shade.

Nice valance you got there
To give a finished look to the front load option, we place a 6” self valance over the front of the board to hide the Rollease.

Let there be light control
So what does front load option do for your client? Since the shade hangs off the back of the board, it falls flush against the window, preventing light gapping around the sides. So, choose front load option for optimum light control and for outside mounts when mounting directly to the face of doors or window moldings.

I expected that
When you opt for front load option, expect to see the control cord hanging visibly in front of the shade. And remember to send enough fabric for the 6” self valance (see our Custom Yarder for help with this and all other types of yardage calculations). If it seems appropriate for your design you could embellish the valance with welt, trim or band and draw attention to this feature.
