From Fabric to Finished Installation

Cornice and Draperies Working Together

You may recognize these cornices from an earlier post, Details Matter, where we shared them shortly after fabrication and before they left our workroom. We are pleased to now share the finished installation, where they are paired with custom pinch pleated draperies and seamless sheers.

Window treatments often serve as the architectural finishing element of a room. When thoughtfully designed and precisely fabricated, they frame the space, soften structural lines, and bring balance to the interior.

In this Chicago bedroom installation, the designer selected a tailored C1 cornice paired with custom pinch pleated draperies and seamless sheers to create a calm, structured presentation across two windows. The combination introduces subtle pattern, layered texture, and architectural presence while maintaining the quiet sophistication of the space.

Together, the cornice and drapery panels transform the windows from simple openings into a refined design feature.

Fabric That Creates Structure and Softness

The cornice fabric introduces a subtle geometric pattern that adds visual structure along the top of the window wall. The pattern provides interest without overpowering the room’s neutral palette, allowing the treatment to remain refined and balanced.

Below the cornice, custom drapery panels introduce softness and vertical movement. The layered fabrics create depth and texture, while the seamless sheers behind them filter natural light and allow it to move gently throughout the room.

This combination of structured cornice and fluid drapery creates the balance designers often seek: architectural definition paired with softness and movement.

Precision in the Workroom

While the finished installation appears effortless, achieving this level of balance requires careful planning in the workroom.

Cornices demand disciplined fabrication. The structure must maintain crisp lines while presenting the fabric pattern in a balanced and intentional way. Pattern placement, seam positioning, and proportion across the board are carefully calculated so the treatment reads cleanly once installed.

The draperies must then complement the cornice in both scale and proportion. Pleat spacing, panel fullness, and finished length are precisely determined to ensure the drapery falls evenly and maintains its tailored appearance beneath the structured top treatment.

This coordination between treatments allows the entire window composition to feel cohesive rather than layered as separate elements.

Precision fabrication ensures that both treatments install cleanly and maintain their structure over time.

Supporting the Designer’s Vision

Interior designers rely on custom window treatments to complete the architectural rhythm of a room. A cornice and drapery combination allows designers to control proportion, frame the windows, and introduce layered materials that elevate the entire interior.

At Stevenson Vestal, we work closely with designers to translate these concepts into finished installations. Every treatment is custom fabricated to reflect the designer’s vision, from fabric selection and pattern placement to the structural construction that ensures the treatment performs beautifully once installed.

Our goal is always the same: to deliver window treatments that reinforce the design intent while installing cleanly and performing reliably.

Where Design Meets Fabrication

If you're planning a project that calls for custom cornices, draperies, or coordinated soft furnishings, Stevenson Vestal partners with interior designers to bring those details to life through precise fabrication and thoughtful craftsmanship.

When fabrication is done well, window treatments become more than decoration—they become architectural elements that elevate the entire room.
