Upholstered cornices are one of our FAVORITE window treatment styles here at Stevenson Vestal!
Here are the TOP TEN upholstered cornice styles trending in our workroom!
But first, it's important to understand how upholstered cornices differ from valances and shade toppers. Check out our blog post on that linked below.
NUMBER 1- The C1 Cornice
The "gold standard" of cornice styles... the C1 Cornice is a true classic!
The standard, straight-across finish is a great choice for ANY fabric.
From sleek striped patterns, to solid fabrics layered with flat trim or a contrast welt, there are so many possibilities to customize your design!
NUMBER 2- The C2 Cornice
The C2 Cornice features notched cutouts, for a stepped design that adds visual interest to your client's windows.
This style is also particularly popular with nailhead trim!
The stepped notches along the bottom of the C2 bring a delightful visual flow to pretty patterned fabric.
Or, choose a contrast fabric for another one of our favorite custom accents...
NUMBER 3- Raised Border Cornice
Raised Borders add layers of color and dimensionality to your design!
Raised Borders echo the pattern along the bottom of your cornice. The border is cut and upholstered as a separate piece, outlined with a top and bottom welt, and fixed to the main cornice board for a beautiful finished product!
This is a great look for tons of different cornice patterns, especially...
NUMBER 4- The C7 Cornice
A more traditional look for your client's windows, this distinctive pattern features dips on either side, with symmetrical points centering a graceful curve along the bottom.
The C7 pairs well with patterned fabrics, or plain solids accented with contrast trim! Nailhead accents are another great look for this cornice style.
NUMBER 5- The C49 Cornice
The C49 Cornice features repeated, rounded dips along the bottom for added softness and flare.
This style is a great choice for patterned fabric!
Accentuate your patterns with a gathered band and tabs along the bottom.
This style makes for a fabulous install, as featured in these shots by 1225 Designs.
For more gradual dips and curves, consider...
NUMBER 6- The C50 Cornice
The dips and flows of the C50 Cornice are reminiscent of waves in the ocean, and the style works well with a wide variety of fabric patterns and colors!
But if you're looking for one wider curve along the center of your cornice, we'd recommend...
NUMBER 7- The C61 Cornice
Nailhead trim around the perimeter brings even more dimensionality to the deep curve of this style.
However, if you'd prefer flat edges on either side of the curved pattern, we might suggest...
NUMBER 8- The C60 Cornice
The indented curve of the C60 has a lovely flow to it! The leveled sides lead to a slightly less dynamic curve.
NUMBER 9- Cornice with Contrast Welt
You might have noticed this in previous photos, but we'd like to emphasize the use of contrast fabric for standard bottom welt on your cornice.
It's important to understand the differences between fabric welt and readymade cord trim, so be sure to check out our BLOG POST on that if you haven't already!
A contrast welt is a simple, yet effective way to highlight the perimeter of your cornice!
Bring out your favorite color in a patterned fabric for your cornice, or request a larger welt size for a bold, bright statement over your client's windows.
NUMBER 10- Flush Border Cornice
A standard Flush Border is similar to a Raised Border, but the separate upholstered piece is aligned right along the edges of the main cornice board. A fabric welt or lip cord trim line the top and bottom of the border.
Try a Flush Border around the entire perimeter, to frame the pattern of your cornice with a contrast fabric!

We hope this was helpful for your next custom cornice design!
