Draperies That Define the Room

Beautiful draperies do more than frame a window. They can establish scale, soften architectural lines, introduce texture, and help carry a designer’s vision from one space to the next.

In this project, custom draperies become an important part of the overall design story. Throughout the home, the treatments complement the architecture while allowing each room to maintain its own character.

In the bedroom, full-length neutral drapery panels bring softness to the tall windows and balance the substantial scale of the furnishings. A contrasting decorative band along the leading edge adds definition without competing with the layered patterns and textures already present in the room. The result feels tailored, polished, and beautifully proportioned.

That same attention to detail continues into the sitting area. Here, lighter draperies create an entirely different feeling. The soft fabric filters the natural light while maintaining the height and presence needed for the expansive windows. A decorative detail near the hem adds just enough interest to give the panels a finished, intentional look.

What makes these treatments especially successful is the way they work with the architecture rather than simply covering the windows. Rod placement draws the eye upward, generous fabric creates beautiful fullness, and carefully considered proportions allow the draperies to feel substantial without overwhelming the rooms.

For interior designers, these are the details that can transform a window treatment from a finishing touch into an integral part of the design.

At Stevenson Vestal, we work with designers to translate those decisions into beautifully fabricated custom draperies—from pleat style and finished length to pattern placement, decorative details, lining, and overall construction.
