What is the 'projection' on a pair of draperies?

Drapery Projection & Overlap

What Are they? Click the play button below to watch our video on projection and overlaps to learn more.

The "projection" or "return" of your drapery refers to the space after your last pleat, where the panel goes back to the wall for full coverage of your window.

In contrast, the "overlap" refers to the leading edge of your drapery - the space after your last pleat that will typically OVERLAP with another panel when you close a pair of draperies to cover the window.

Our standard measurement for these flat spaces on your panel (after the last pleats on the far right or left) is typically 3.5".

If you would prefer a different measurement, just specify!

But keep in mind if you simply state "no projection/return" or "no overlap" we will still need to clarify your EXACT measurements.

If you'd prefer the panel to end with a pleat on one or both sides like the patterned panel shown above, we recommend requesting 0 inches for your projection/return or overlap measurement.

You may also want to consider adjusting your overlap measurement if you've selected wide trim down the leading edge of your panel.
