Custom Valances and Cornices That Bring Architectural Balance to Every Window

Window treatments do more than cover glass. When thoughtfully designed and precisely fabricated, they help define proportion, soften architectural transitions, and create visual continuity throughout a home.

For this project, the designer selected custom Summerfield valances and a coordinating cornice treatment to bring warmth, pattern, and architectural presence to a series of windows. The result is a cohesive window treatment plan that complements the cabinetry, wall color, furnishings, and natural landscape beyond the glass.

Architectural Framing Across Multiple Spaces

The kitchen features a series of custom Summerfield valances, including a bay window installation and a sink window centered between cabinetry. The softly scalloped profile introduces movement while maintaining clean visual structure.

The floral fabric adds color and pattern without overwhelming the room. A contrasting coral lining detail visible within the folds creates subtle definition and reinforces the custom nature of the treatment.

In the adjoining dining area, a custom cornice paired with drapery panels creates a stronger architectural statement. The cornice establishes a clear horizontal framework above the window while the drapery panels add height and softness to the space.

Together, the treatments create consistency while allowing each room to maintain its own character.

Precision in the Workroom

Projects like this require more than selecting a beautiful fabric. Patterned treatments demand careful planning long before fabrication begins.

For the valances, pattern placement was thoughtfully managed across each scallop to maintain visual balance throughout the treatment. The shape of the scallops required disciplined fabrication to ensure the floral motifs remained proportionate and intentional rather than appearing random or crowded.

The bay window installation presented an additional challenge. Multiple sections had to work together visually while accommodating the angles of the window structure. Careful planning ensured smooth transitions from section to section and a balanced appearance across the entire installation.

The cornice treatment required similar attention to detail. Clean shaping, precise fabric application, and thoughtful pattern positioning allow the treatment to maintain its structure while presenting a refined finished appearance.

These fabrication decisions are often subtle, but they are essential to achieving a finished treatment that feels integrated with the architecture of the room rather than simply added to it.

Where Design Meets Fabrication

Interior designers understand that successful window treatments depend on both creative vision and technical execution.

Custom fabrication allows designers to control proportion, scale, pattern placement, and architectural framing in ways that off-the-shelf products simply cannot. Every fabrication decision contributes to how the treatment performs visually and physically once installed.

At Stevenson Vestal, we collaborate with designers to ensure every detail supports the overall design intent. From pattern centering and structural construction to installation readiness, each project is approached with disciplined craftsmanship and careful planning.

Every custom treatment represents a partnership between design vision and fabrication expertise. These Summerfield valances and coordinating cornice demonstrate how careful craftsmanship can transform fabric into architectural design elements that complete the room.
