Happy Halloween

The spookiest season of the year is upon us, and you probably had lots of fun Halloween activities in the works, bobbing for apples, making a DIY Halloween costumes, visiting your local pumpkin patch, and planning your Halloween party or dinner menu.

We hope you all had a Spooktacular and Safe Halloween. We sure did here at Stevenson Vestal.

Our table is set and ready for us to dig into some breakfast.

Before we dig in, we all gather and say grace.

Marian gives some announcements about some drawings for give-aways and a fun game to end our day with. Oh boy, can't wait.

Prize winner are!

Ok, game time. Now the game is called the Saran Wrap Game. To play this game the first person with the ball starts unwrapping the ball while the person on their right rolls a pair of dice, trying to roll doubles. Once doubles are rolled, the ball is passed to the next player to the left and the sequence begins again.

The person with the ball does not stop unwrapping until the person to their right rolls doubles. This creates an urgency to the game! You want to roll the dice over and over again as quickly as you can so you get the ball! You get to keep the treasures you unwrap!

You decide who starts the game. You can choose to roll the dice or go from youngest to oldest. Your choice!

Have fun doing this at your next gathering.

FUN FACTS:

1) Jack-o-Lanterns used to be carved out of turnips, potatoes and beets, and when the holiday is over, they make a delicious dinner side dish!

2) Americans used to celebrate the holiday by sending Halloween cards. In the early 1900s, before the telephone was invented, Halloween cards were about as popular as Christmas cards.

 3) Candy wasn't given out to trick-or-treaters until the 1950s. Halloween simply wouldn't be the same without those fun (and king!) size candy bars to sweeten the day. But there was a time when trick-or-treaters didn't receive candy at all, but rather pieces of cake, fruit, nuts, coins, and little toys, according to the History Channel. It wasn't until the 1950s, when candy makers began to promote their goods for Halloween, that candy became a staple on the trick-or-treating circuit. These days, one quarter of all the candy sold in the U.S. each year is purchased for Halloween.

Did you know?

The word "Halloween" comes from All Hallows' Eve and means "hallowed evening." The history of Halloween dates back to a pagan festival called Samhain. Hundreds of years ago, people dressed up as saints and went door-to-door, which is the origin of Halloween costumes and trick-or-treating.
