PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This is a physical position that requires hand and body mobility and upper body strength. Some lifting is required with ability to lift up to 30lbs without assistance. This position requires frequent walking, stretching, pulling, reaching motions and the ability to stand for prolonged periods.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Shade Artisan is responsible for making decorative and functional custom shade products. This person will train in the construction of Roman, Balloon and Austrian functional shades utilizing patterns and instructional manuals. The Artisan will measure, cut and sew together decorative fabric to form the shade. They will sew and cover cording for trim and apply any decorative trims or embellishments as specified on the manufacturing ticket. Once the shade product is made the Artisan will construct the specified lift system used to make the shade function (up & down). The shade is then mounted to a provided board with a pneumatic stapler to complete the product.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Special skills include, fabric cutting, sewing skills (utilizing various machines), and pattern matching skills. Must have general knowledge of provided tools and the ability to read and understand standard measurements and manufacturing tickets with acute attentiveness to detail.

TOOLS

The Shade artisan will utilize various sewing machines including single needle, spot tack, overlock and blind-stitch machines. Cordless drills & screw driers are used to construct the lift systems.Pneumatic staplers are used to apply products to boards.

TRAINING

16+ weeks for apprentice

13 weeks for Experienced Sewer

Periodic cross training for flexibility to perform tasks in other departments.
